Play Station 3 boost Health Research
Stanford
University's Folding@home distributed computing project has seen its
capacity more than double in the last month, thanks to the addition of idle
processor cycles from hundreds of thousands of PlayStation
3 consoles.
An application
supporting the program, which seeks to better understand how proteins fold
the number of TFLOPS from consoles is more than double that from Windows PCs,
which are the second-largest group of clients running the software.
Researchers are keen to unlock the mysteries of protein folding because it's
suspected that misfolds in proteins are the cause of several diseases, including
Alzheimer's disease, cystic fibrosis and some forms of cancer.
The computer power needed to perform the modeling and calculations is immense
and doesn't rely on fast networking as much as pure processing power.

afford to supply their classrooms with computers, leaving some students
ill-equipped in this increasingly technology-driven world.
Schools can, however, turn to Alberta Computers for Schools for a helping hand,
as the organization provides refurbished computers to students across the
province free of charge.
Computers for Schools was co-founded by Industry Canada and the TelecomPioneers,
an industry-based volunteer organization, in 1993.
Villeneuve explains that even though the province is wealthy, the need for the
program is still very real.
“An issue in the province is in the rural areas,” Villeneuve says. “Declining
enrolment means the school boards are getting less money—because they’re paid
per capita—and so they’re using us a lot.
But even in the city, they simply are not able to purchase the number of
computers that they need or want.”

Taste of Nation Works to end Hunger and Poverty
Share our Strength's Taste of the Nation draws more than 40,000 guests each year
and raises both money for and awareness about anti-hunger and anti-poverty
efforts.
A simple vision of bringing top chefs and restaurateurs, local corporations and
community leaders together turned into an over-the-top culinary event
"Our steering committee is comprised entirely of community member volunteers who
donate their time and mind power to organize this event and maximize the funds
collected to benefit the local food bank and housing assistance program.
With the money raised through this event, Share our Strength awards grants to organizations that dedicate themselves to ending childhood hunger at local, state and national levels. More than $70 million has been raised by the event since 1988 and it has been used to support more than 450 organizations working to end hunger and poverty.

Cancer Charity Teams with Pub

Ireland registered with the federation as the April 30 deadline approaches.
As well as informing customers of the change in the law, the signs are urging
smokers who wish to give up to "take action" by calling Action Cancer or
visiting their website where they can find support and advice.
"Action Cancer provide six-week smoking cessation programmes to various groups
across Northern Ireland and we would encourage smokers to use this change and
the support available to quit for good."
The new legislation means that smoking will no longer be permitted in enclosed
and substantially enclosed public places and workplaces.
Statistics show that 80% of cancer is preventable with healthy lifestyle
choices, including eating a healthy diet, taking regular exercise, and not
smoking.

The top line of the sign is always the same: Free Bibles Inside. The second line changes and features thoughts such as: Surrender Your Heart for a Brand-New Start.
Mr. James has repaired thousands of vacuum cleaners and given away thousands of
Bibles to his customers. It’s his way of saying thanks to the Lord for saving
him from destruction.
As a successful businessman, Dave James had slipped into a life of drug
addiction. “If God hadn’t taken cocaine away from me,” he says, “I’d be dead.”
The Lord helped him get clean

It was 2 days before a small group of teens and adults were to leave for Jamaica on a special missions trip. We had been planning for months to go to a school for deaf children to build a much-needed playground. So, when this teen called, I thought, Oh, no. She can’t go.
But when she, her mom, and I met for lunch that day, I found out how truly special this young lady was. She told me she was donating her entire savings to help pay for the trip—money she had been saving to buy a car. "As I was praying the past couple of nights," she explained, "I felt that God was telling me to give all of my money." That day we had tears of joy with our burgers and fries.

The Whale
If you read the front page story of the SF Chronicle,you would have read about a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that causedher to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards ofline rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a linetugging in her mouth.
A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands (outside the Golden Gate ) and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she wasso bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her .
A very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed gently around-she thanked them. Some said it was the most incrediblybeautiful experience of their lives.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same. May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude I pass this on to you, in the same spirit.

Metamucil's New Motto: Be Beautiful on the Inside
The large intestine can be a large depository of waste materials. Fibers help clean the large intestines. Vegetables and fruits are good sources of fibers. Other supplemental fibers includes Metamucil, Psyllium seeds, and brans. Regular fiber usage helps reduces acne problem for me.
